How to spend 24 hours in oxford recommended by our hotel in oxford

If you only had 24 hours to spend in Oxford, what would you do?

Also known as the City of Dreaming Spires, exploring the streets of Oxford will reveal over 800 years of history.  The flourishing city is renowned for its stunning architecture and the prestigious university, however, Oxford is much more than a university town.

With so much to do and see, how can you fully immerse yourself in Oxford’s beauty and history in 24 hours? Here are the top things to do and see to make the most of your visit and your stay at our boutique hotel in Oxford.

Wander around the Oxford University grounds…

No trip to Oxford would be complete without visiting the university! The University of Oxford is one of the oldest and prestigious universities in the world, with numerous famous faces and great minds studying here.

The university is made up of 38 independent colleges across the city. The colleges range in age and size, making some large and visible, whilst others and tucked away in cobbled side streets. There are many colleges close to our luxury hotel in Oxford and our Oxford hotel even looks over the Oxford Union, where an episode of Question Time was recently filmed!

If you have the chance to visit just one college (and you might in 24 hours!), then Christ Church College is a must see! The largest, and arguably the most famous college, Christ Church has not only been featured in many films, such as Harry Potter, but it’s also where Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice and Wonderland taught mathematics.

Enjoy a spot of lunch in the botanic gardens near our boutique hotel in Oxford…

Grab a takeaway lunch and head to the hidden Botanic Garden. Just off the high street and close to our boutique hotel in Oxford, you can find Britain’s oldest botanic garden, right in the heart of the city centre. Founded in 1621, the garden was first established to study medicinal plants.

With glasshouses, a conservatory, rock garden and vegetable patch, the stunning gardens are a feast for the eyes and the perfect surroundings to enjoy a picnic.

Be in awe at the Pitt Rivers Museum…

Lieutenant-General Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers was an anthropologist who collected more than 20,000 objects from around the world.

His collection is one of the finest collections of anthropology and archaeology in human history and it’s all crammed into a small museum. The collection is not for the faint-hearted with shrunken human heads and mummies being part of it, however, it still has plenty more to explore with various weird and wonderful objects on display.

Catch a show with the Creation Theatre before heading back to our hotel in Oxford…

Before you head back to our luxury hotel in Oxford, why not go and catch a show? Performing in a variety of non-traditional venues, including city parks, Blackwell’s bookshop, Oxford Castle and various colleges, the Creation theatre produces a range of original shows, with plenty of magic, quirk and special effects.
